Neighborhood Revitalization

Picture
The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is designed to pursue Habitat's strategic imperative of helping to transform and strengthen communities so that those who reside in them will be able to live and grow into all that God intends. Neighborhoods affected by abandoned and foreclosed properties often experience an increase in crime resulting in decreasing property values. With the subsequent fleeing of neighbors, whose incomes may already be below standards, whole neighborhoods become blighted.

Habitat's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) programs offer an opportunity to achieve several goals:
  • Serve more families.
  • Initiate partnerships with government and municipal entities.
  • Partner with the community to curb the degradation of neighborhoods.
  • Collaborate with other community organizations.

There are several programs included within Habitat's NRI spectrum. The NRI programs that Habitat-Greene County are launching include:
  • A Brush With Kindness: Exterior painting & minor repairs
  • Critical Home Repair: Repairs to alleviate health, life & safety/code issues

As is the case with qualifying for our new homes, Partner Families that qualify for an NRI program will need to fill out an application, pay for materials used, and contribute sweat equity toward the work done on their home. Because the nature of these jobs is likely to be much smaller, the dollars invested and sweat equity involved is significantly less.

Contact us at information@hfhgc.org or 937.374.8726 if you think you, a family member, or neighbor may qualify for one of these opportunities!

Habitat New House Details

Habitat builds homes by volunteers but with professional quality and care. The homes we build must meet all city codes and are well insulated. Habitat homes are not fancy, but they are very attractive. Each home has a full kitchen, a living room, an adequate number of bedrooms and two bathrooms. A shed is included as well as a concrete parking pad large enough for two cars.
